Do you sometimes sense a spiritual presence in your life? That feeling of being cherished and helped through a rough situation by a power beyond human capability? I have had so many of those experiences throughout the years that when they happen now I find myself with a big smile on my face saying, “Hello, grace.” I couldn’t think of a better title for the third memoir in this series.
While I was working on the book, I talked to many people about their encounters with grace when lost, or sick, or hurting. It seems as if we have all recognized the presence of a spiritual or other-worldly force that enters our life at a critical time, or multiple times, with a benevolent, breath-taking love directed unerringly at our unique being. “Hello, grace.” is my memoir about going through childhood and adult years with a growing appreciation for the ways in which grace accompanies all human experience.
My 30’s and 40’s were a time of constant introspection. I could see what I’d done with my time and my talents to that point, could see the professional ladders I’d climbed and the successes I had had. But I could also see the future looming in a somewhat threatening way. I didn’t want to spend the next half of my life continuing to follow the path I’d been on. Other things beckoned – like writing and having a more satisfying social life. If you are anywhere between 25 and 50 years old, and find yourself searching for answers to big questions about your purpose in life and how to make the most of your spiritual journey, “Hello, grace.” offers some guideposts and insights. Grace will be part of your journey because it is part of our common humanity.
